How do we pass from Republic to Empire? It is the dramatic issue in Geschichtsunterricht (History lessons), a 1972 film by Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, a masterpiece of independent European cinema. Using the film as a "keynote speech" for a professional meeting between documentary filmmakers and independent online media, the workshop by the European Cinema and Audiovisual Days revolves upon this question, at the Franco Antonicelli Cultural Union in Turin (from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on 31 March). Double screening of Straub-Huillet’s film immediately afterwards at the Cinema Massimo, at 6.30 and at 8.30 p.m.

The 8.30 screening will be introduced by Adriano Aprà. Admission 6.00/4.00/3.00 euro.

The Library/Mediatheque will present the “SINGING & DANCING. Three musicals by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly” showcase.
Library/Mediatheque – From 3 to 24 April 2017 – Meetings Room

The Library/Mediatheque is presenting the “SINGING & DANCING. Three musicals by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly” showcase.

Monday afternoon screenings are continuing at the Library/Mediatheque “Mario Gromo” with the SINGING & DANCING. Three musicals by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly showcase, featuring three musicals by these great American masters in April.

Stanley Donen (director and choreographer) and Gene Kelly (actor, director, dancer and choreographer) formed one of the creative couples that worked with most determination on the spectacular forms of the musical in the first half of the Fifties in the Twentieth century. Their creative span as co-directors gave birth to some of the most complete and extraordinary outputs regarding a genre, blending singing, dancing and cinema with grace and lightness, meant as spellbinding and wondrous expressivity. A virtuoso cinema with a high spectacular impact, which will come alive once more at the Mario Gromo Library/Mediatheque in April with three co-directions by two giants in American entertainment: On the town, Singin’ in the rain and It’s always fair weather.

All screenings are admission free until full seating capacity is reached, subject to free membership registration to the Library/Mediatheque and presenting an identity document.

The film selected for the April date  is Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders. The film will be introduced by Carlo Brosio. Admission 4.00 euro.
