A screening of William Wyler’s film Jezebel and John Sayles’ The Brother from Another Planet for IL CINEMA DEGLI ALTRI, introduced by contemporary artist Kara Walker.

Cinema Massimo – 27 March 2011, at 6 p.m./8.30 p.m.

On Sunday, 27th March 2011, starting at 6 p.m. in Cinema Massimo’s Screen Three, the contemporary artist Kara Walker will hold a talk and present some of her short films, which will be followed by feature films chosen specially by the artist: William Wyler’s Jezebel at 6 p.m. and John Sayles’ The Brother from Another Planet at 8.30 p.m. as part of IL CINEMA DEGLI ALTRI. Admission: €3.

The evening has been organised in conjunction with the exhibition of Kara Walker’s work organised by the Fondazione Merz (curator: Olga Gambari, from 25th March to 3rd July 2011). The films chosen by the artist are in some way connected to her artistic research, composed of ferociously realistic events whose common denominator is the history of the Afro-American community in the United States, from slavery to the difficulties posed by social integration. Kara Walker expresses herself using many different techniques, from installations to videos, from marionettes to shadow puppets, wall drawings, collages mounted on various materials as well as drawings, tempera, miniatures and large-scale works for dynamic tales of legend and memory.
