Restless Lucidity. A tribute to Elio Petri
The exhibit was organized on the occasion Paola Pegoraro Petri’s donation to the National Cinema Museum of the great director’s photographic and paper archives.
Elio Petri’s private archives include many documents, screenplays, over 500 photographs, notes, prizes and the extensive correspondence of the director, who received an Oscar in 1971 for Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion. His artistic journey was documented by some of Italy’s most important set photographers (Antonio Benetti, Giovan Battista Poletto, Claudio Patriarca, Tazio Secchiaroli, Sergio Strizzi, Mario Tursi). Their work is exhibited inside the Mole Antonelliana, as well as on the railings outside.
Ninety photographs from the director’s vast private archives chronologically illustrate his work method, how he experienced the sets, his deep and special relationships with his actors and actresses. Some of the still and set photos are little known or previously unpublished.
This is the portrait of a film director, but above all, of a man “above suspicion.” Besides the exhibit, a complete retrospective has been organized.
The photographs on view have been published in a catalog which also includes reminiscences and rare and unique documents from the personal archives of the famous director.
The exhibit is available to be set up in other locations.
