SCREENINGS CALENDAR
Matt Schrader
Score: A Film Music Documentary
(Usa 2016, 93’, DCP, col., o.v. it. s/t)
What makes a sound track unforgettable? Matt Schrader tries to understand this through research and interviews to filmmakers and musicians like James Cameron, Marco Beltrami, Thomas Newman, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, Danny Elfman, John Williams, James Horner, John Debney, Rachel Portman and many more. This is not a simple tract about music history in cinema, but a true ensemble of interviews dovetailed together, with anecdotes and scientific explanations on the physical and psychological reactions it can cause.
Fri 2, at 8.30 p.m./Mon 12, at 6.00 p.m./ Sat 31, at 6.45 p.m.
Susan Glatzer
Alive and kicking
(Usa/Sweden 2017, 88’, DCP, col., o.v. it. s/t)
Born during the Great Depression, Swing elevates the human spirit beyond one’s circumstances: its dancers can move at sustained rhythms, driven by pure joy and disappear into something bigger, something dazzling, into a space without critics or judges or an analyst. Alive and kicking offers the public an intimate view of the culture of swing, whilst shedding light on many issues in contemporary American society.
Sun 4, at 4.00 p.m./ Mon 5, at 6.00 p.m./ Mon 30, at 8.30 p.m.
Shirley Clarke
Ornette: Made in America
(Usa 1984, 77’, DCP, col., v.o. sott. it.)
The acclaimed saxophone player and innovator of free jazz Ornette Coleman is at the core of this film, which does not wish to retrace his life, but rather to exalt his genus through a free style in which performance, interviews and experimental music videos blend with Coleman’s childhood memories. Interviews and original footage with William S. Burroughs, Ed Blackwell, Robert Palmer and Denardo Coleman are included. Restored version by Ross Lipman and the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
Tue 27, at 8.30 p.m. – The film will be introduced by Stefano Zenni
