Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds concert-film directed by filmmaker David Barnard.

In September 2016, one year from the tragic demise of his son, Nick Cave released his latest studio album, Skeleton Tree. It features Distant Sky, a complex and unusual piece, with Celtic and almost religious echoes, in which the deep sound of the organ alternates with Nick Cave’s penetrating voice and the pungent one of Danish soprano Else Torp. That unusual song is now giving its title to the concert-film which recounts the leg in Copenhagen of an incredible tour, starting in Australia and continuing in the United States, and ending in Europe. The tour stopped by in Italy, in Milan and in Rome. In order to experience these hours anew - or to discover them for the first time if not among the fortunate few who took part in them live - the rendez-vous at the cinema is for 12 April (theatres list on www.nexodigital.it) for a worldwide simultaneous screening which will happen only once, in 500 film theatres all over the world.

Distant Sky. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is a powerful event-film, just like the concerts in Cave’s latest tour, which allowed his fans to take part in a sort of religious rite characterised by the magnetic force of the artist and by his capacity for entering into total attunement with his public, demolishing every human, as well as artistic distance, and creating authentic intimacy amongst the people who took part in it. With the cathartic and overwhelming strength of their music, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds offered the European public a total artistic experience, featuring the compositions of their new album Skeleton Tree from the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, side by side with their essential catalogue.

The screening is part of the events connected with the SoundFrames. Cinema and music on show exhibition, which may be visited at the National Cinema Museum throughout 2018.
