SUMMER 2023 AT THE MUSEO NAZIONALE DEL CINEMA

Summer 2023 - Mole Antonelliana

The Museo Nazionale del Cinema will remain open as usual throughout the summer period and during the month of August it will be exceptionally open on Tuesdays.

From Friday 11 August to Sunday 20 August, the National Museum of Cinema will remain exceptionally open from 9:00am to 9:00pm including the 15th August (Ferragosto).

As well as the rich permanent collection, visitors will be able to enjoy THE FUTURE OF CINEMA. THE CINEMA OF THE FUTURE until 7 September 2023, a set up on the helicoidal ramp at the Mole Antonelliana. A “walk” among 24 phrases, said by as many directors, which are a testimony of the great technological changes in the Seventh art: the advent of sound, colour, television and home-video, the shift from film to digital and streaming. A reflection on the future of cinema ending with a focus section on Artificial Intelligence: two rooms, one offering a loop screening of three significant examples of short films wholly made with AI and the other one offering a practical experience on producing a cinematographic experience, via ChatGPT.

The survey on three interactive panels below the large screens completes the set-up; the questions asked have the objective of understanding and identifying the Museum visitors’ trends, taste and expectations.

On the reception floor at the Mole Antonelliana until 11 September 2023 (free admission during opening hours), the National Museum of Cinema presents STEFANO BESSONI. THE MOLE OF WONDERS – curated by Stefano Bessoni and Domenico De Gaetano – the first large exhibition dedicated to the creative genius of the director, illustrator and animator.

Over 150 artworks on display – mainly from Bessoni’s private archive and National Museum of Cinema – cover the areas of his expressive research: from fairy tales to the world of science, from illustrations to  stop-motion  animation, puppet making and the great love for cinema.

During the summer period, guided tours will take place every Sunday and on public holidays, as well as from 12 to 20 August at 11:00am and 3:00pm: the itinerary “Discovering the Museum” allows visitors to get to know the Museum and its wonders, from shadow theatre to the Lumière brothers, to the great protagonists of the history of cinema.

Cinema Massimo, whose summer closing will allow the eco-efficiency works financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to be executed, will ideally relocate its activities to sala Tre in the Cavallerizza Reale where EFFETTO NOTTE, the summer arena of the National Museum of Cinema, is on display. From 15 June to 6 August 2023, an actual open-air cinema, with 400 seats and a food&beverage spot, offers a programme with the great classics of the history of cinema, aimed at cinephiles and fans in Turin, as well as tourists that can enjoy the original version with Italian subtitles.

The Arena programme is available at the following link: https://www.cinemamassimotorino.it/publication/arena-estiva/wppa_open/
