On the roads of Kiarostami
The tribute – organized by the National Cinema Museum in collaboration with the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and the Scuola Holden, present a collection and documentation of the complete works by Kiarostami covering the various fields of his artistic creativity. Besides the complete retrospective of his films, the tribute includes a workshop reserved for young filmmakers and videomakers, two never-before-seen photographic collections, two video installations (Sleepers and Minutes Older) and an unreleased series of digital short films (5 Long Takes of Abbas Kiarostami).
The photographic exhibit is held at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. Photography became increasingly important in Kiarostami’s work, asserting itself as an independent means of expression. He initially used a surprising chromatic variety in his early photographs and then moved on to more classic and austere black and white.
The first series, 40 Untitled Photographs, is printed on MDF in a large format (188 x 122). The second series, The Roads of Kiarostami, includes 52 photographs taken between 1978 and 2003, printed on paper in a 27.5 x 42.5 cm. format.
“Kiarostami” is the title of a richly illustrated book which contains unpublished essays (by Alain Bergala, Jean-Michel Frodon, Marin Karmitz, Marco Vallora), interviews and statements by the author and a complete filmography and bibliography; the volume guides even inexpert readers through the creative world of one of the most important contemporary artists. The book, edited by Alberto Barbera and Elisa Resegotti, is published by Electa.
On the occasion of the exhibition, a poetry collection, “A Wolf on the Lurk,” has been published by Einaudi.
The exhibit is available to be set up in other locations.
