THE MYSTERIES OF LIFE. Carl Th. Dreyer’s cinema showcase. Live soundtracks on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 performed by Maestro Stefano Maccagno.

Cinema Massimo – From 8 to 31 January 2016 – Screen Three

The National Cinema Museum renders tribute to Carl Theodor Dreyer with a showcase titled THE MYSTERIES OF LIFE at the Cinema Massimo from Friday 8 to Sunday 31 January.

One of the great cinema masters of all times, between silent and sound film, the Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer, who debuted in 1918, has also been one of the most misunderstood by critics and the public. Always daring in his viewpoint choices, a visionary experimenter, Dreyer preferred stories on intolerance and repression and was able to express the complexity of his characters through images. His cinema was extraordinarily consistent, an illuminating example of harmony, balance, linearity in his fifty years of work, during which he only directed twenty-one films. In 1955 his masterpiece, Ordet, was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

The showcase will be inaugurated on Friday 8 January at 6.15 p.m., by the screening of Dies Irae. Unmissable dates in this showcase are on Saturday 9 January at 8.30 p.m. and Sunday 10 January at 6.30 p.m., with the respective screenings of Blade af Satans bog (Pages from Satan’s Book) and Michael with live soundtracks performance by Maestro Stefano Maccagno. Admission 6.00/4.00/3.00 euro.
