The IF WE MAY, WE’LL TALK OF… PIETRANGELI, SCOLA (AND THE OTHERS) retrospective has been envisaged – a few months after Ettore Scola’s demise – as a transversal tribute for the author of some of the most important films in our cinematography.
His collaboration with Antonio Pietrangeli – one of the best and perhaps most underestimated film directors of his generation – gave rise to a depiction of Italy which, far from having the vibrant and roaring scale typical of the economic boom, showed a dejected provincial dimension and recognised that empty pretentiousness within modernity led to existential solitude.
This week, screening of Fantasmi a Roma (Phantom lovers) by Antonio Pietrangeli.
