theGIFER is back at the Cinema Massimo, with an evening of talks, screenings and awards for its 2017 edition.
Cinema Massimo – 6 November 2017, 4.00 p.m. – Screen Three
theGIFER, the international festival dedicated to gif art, the artistic avant-garde now widespread at a global level, is back, being characterised by a production of artworks in gif format, that is, pictures in motion repeating themselves in a loop.
This format is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its birth in 2017: starting from this recurrence, the theme of this new edition is #pastfuture, a suggestion wishing to relate past, present and future, also taking its cue from the very nature of gif, which is based on a loop, in which the past and the present become a fluid and uninterrupted circuit. The festival will open with a maxi screening at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation on 3 November, then continuing on 4 and 5 in the venues at the Galleria Sabauda, where gifs will be set to dialogue with great masterpieces of the past.
A talk on gif art moderated by Valentina Tanni from Artribune will take place on 4 November at 4.00 p.m. at Screen Three in the Cinema Massimo, in collaboration with IED – European Design Institute, during which the results of the workshop on gif art produced by the Institute will be shown. To follow, screening of the artworks in competition - with live soundtracks by Genau - and awards to the winners with partners and sponsors attending. Admission free.
