CSC – Experimental Cinematography Center – Turin campus presents the final-year films by the Animation School graduates.

Friday 22 June, Cinema Massimo, Sala Uno, Felice Laudadio (president of the Experimental Cinematography Center [CSC]), Caterina D’Amico and Adriano De Santis (principal and vice principal, respectively, of the National School of Cinema), Bartolomeo Corsini (director of the CSC Turin campus), and Chiara Magri (didactic director) will award the diploma in film animation to the students who have completed the three-year course 2015-2017. Also present will be Antonella Parigi (Culture Commissioner, Region of Piedmont).

The 17 graduates of the CSC animation course will present their final-year films, which explore a range of themes and narratives via diverse and innovative techniques. Five short films will be presented: L’anguilla (Silvia Bassoli, Giacomo D'Ancona, Maria Virginia Moratti); Oltremura (Cecilia Argenton, Francesca Marchiando Pacchiola, Salvatore Pione, Giovanni Saponaro); Service Inc. (Isac Luca Amisano, Guglielmo Audenino, Leonardo Tacconella, Gabriele Tonsi); Polvere sottile (Alessandra Boatto, Gloria Cianci, Sofia Zanonato); and New Neighbours (Sara Burgio, Andrea Mannino, Giacomo Rinaldi).

 

A CSC honorary diploma will be awarded to two prominent Italian innovators of film animation. Gibba, stage name of Francesco Maurizio Guido, pioneered animated film and collaborated with Fellini on the unfinished short film Hallo Jeep! and on Anton Gino Domeneghini’s La rosa di Bagdad. Since the 1960s, Michel Fuzellier, Milan-based director, illustrator, art director, and animator, is known as one of the most innovative figures in Italian film animation. Together with Babak Payami, he co-directed Iqbal – Bambini senza paura, a feature film of great civic engagement.

 

Two special showings are scheduled: Gibba’s short L’ultimo Sciuscià (1946), the only animated neorealist film set in post-WWII Italy, and an anthology of Fuzeillier’s films from his long career.
