The Cult! 2018/19 Cult film series opens with Wim Wenders’ The American Friend.

The Cult! film series will resume its monthly schedule starting in September with a restored version of Wilm Wenders’ The American Friend, adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s novel Ripley’s Game.

Struck with an incurable disease, Jonathan Zimmermann (Bruno Ganz), a mild-mannered picture frame maker living in Hamburg, is approached by a gangster who talks him into committing a double crime. Tom Ripley (Dennis Hopper), a shady, American art dealer offers to help him out of a game that’s turning rough. Under Robby Müller’s masterful photography and the appearance of Lou Castel, Samuel Fuller, Jean Eustache, Nicholas Ray, and Wenders himself in minor roles.
