Cinema Massimo – From the 12th to the 18th of November 2010

A presentation of the festival entitled L’IMMAGINE ALLO SPECCHIO (THE IMAGE IN THE MIRROR): doubles and symmetry in film and a screening of David Lynch's film Mulholland Drive, presented to the public by Massimo Melotti.

The National Cinema Museum presents the festival entitled L’IMMAGINE ALLO SPECCHIO (THE IMAGE IN THE MIRROR): doubles and symmetry in film at Cinema Massimo, organised to coincide with the large-scale exhibition EXHIBITION, EXHIBITION directed by Adam Carr, which will run at Rivoli Castle until the 9th of January 2011. This retrospective, which will be held at Cinema Massimo from the 12th to the 16th of November  2010, examines the exhibition's theme – which specifically ponders the dynamics of  doubles in the world of contemporary art – tackling motifs such as doubles and symmetry as seen in those films that have each, in their own way, presented the theme of the double in its widest sense. The festival will open on the 12th of November 2010, at 8.30 p.m. at Cinema Massimo. Massimo Melotti will introduce a screening of David Lynch's film Mulholland Drive. Admission: €5.50/4.00/3.00.

Marco Bertolino and Ettore Ridola present John Woo's film Face/Off as well as their essay on the film director, as part of the L’IMMAGINE ALLO SPECCHIO (THE IMAGE IN THE MIRROR) festival.

On Sunday the 14th November 2010 at 8.30 p.m., Marco Bertolino and Ettore Ridola will introduce a screening of John Woo's film Face/Off  as part of the L’IMMAGINE ALLO SPECCHIO (THE IMAGE IN THE MIRROR) festival. The two authors will also present their essay on the film director entitled John Woo: La violenza come redenzione (John Woo: violence as redemption), published by Le Mani. Admission: €5.50/4.00/3.00.

The festival L’IMMAGINE ALLO SPECCHIO (THE IMAGE IN THE MIRROR): doubles and symmetry in film has been scheduled to coincide with the large-scale exhibition EXHIBITION, EXHIBITION directed by Adam Carr, at Rivoli Castle until the 9th of January 2011.

Alberto Barbera and Thierry Fremaux present Lumière!, a tribute to the Lumière brothers, the inventors of film, as a grand finale to end the MAGNIFICHE VISIONI (MAGNIFICENT VISIONS) permanent festival of restored film.

The grand finale of the MAGNIFICHE VISIONI (MAGNIFICENT VISIONS) Permanent festival of restored film, will take place on Wednesday the 17th of November 2010 at 8.45 p.m., in Cinema Massimo's Screen 3. The evening will feature a selection of films entitled Lumière!, filmed by Louis Lumière and his staff immediately after the great screening that unveiled cinema to the first audiences of all time.

The film was edited by the Institut Lumière and is based on the restorations carried out by the Archives Francaises du Film and Bologna city council's film archive. The programme has been prepared by Thierry Fremaux, director of the Institut Lumière in Lyon, who will introduce and explain the film with the assistance of Alberto Barbera. The programme also features extremely rare footage, such as the first colour films, made by the Lumière brothers using a technology they invented and patented (known as 'Autochromie'), as well as the first, extraordinary 3D footage ever made in the history of cinema.
