Director Susanna Nicchiarelli, actress Trine Dyrholm and the Gatto Ciliegia Contro il Grande Freddo band are presenting “Nico, 1988”. Cinema Massimo, 10 October 2017 8.30 p.m. (Screen One)

Turin premiere of Nico, 1988.  The film won the Orizzonti section at the 74th Venice Film Festival.

Special event at the Cinema Massimo, on Tuesday 10 October, with filmmaker Susanna Nicchiarelli, the starring actress Trine Dyrholm and the Gatto Ciliegia Contro il Grande Freddo band, presenting the Turin premiere of Nico, 1988. This film won the Orizzonti section at the 74th Venice Film Festival and is to be released all over Italy on 12 October.

 

“I wished to make a film on the woman that Nico was,” - stresses Susanna Nicchiarelli – “on the person behind and beyond the image which most people have of her, beyond the icon: beyond Nico, I wished to depict the real Christa”.

 

The film presentation is organised by I Wonder and will tale place at 8.30 p.m., at Screen One at the Cinema Massimo. Following the film, the guests will answer questions from the audience at the cinema. The film will be screened in its original version subtitled in Italian. Admission 750/5.00 euro.

The last years in the life of Christa Päffgen, the artist Nico. A muse of Warhol’s, the singer of Velvet Underground and a woman whose beauty was undisputable, Nico experienced a second life when she began her career as a soloist. Here we follow the final tours by Nico and the band that accompanied her around Europe in the 1980s: the years in which the "priestess of darkness", as she was called, freed herself of the burden of her beauty and began to rebuild a relationship with her son.
